Thanks to You - Something special is growing across Mandurah

Mandurah’s community spirit shines in countless ways, and behind the scenes your rates play a crucial role - not just in maintaining everyday services like roads and waste collection, but also in supporting initiatives that nurture our environment and enrich community life.

Through our #ThanksToYou campaign, we’re sharing the stories of inspiring Mandurah locals whose work (thanks to your rates contribution) benefits our community, like our local community gardens.

Thanks to you, community gardens in Mandurah, Lakelands and Falcon continue to make our city such a special place to live.

Across Mandurah, something special is growing. Not just fresh produce, but connection, learning and a strong sense of community.

That’s thanks to three special community gardens, which are not only helping locals learn to grow their own fruit and veggies but are also connecting neighbours and providing a space for friends to share their passion for gardening.

It’s a best-of-both-worlds situation: Not only are local learning how to be self-sufficient growers, but they’re also making new connections and new friends.

Cheryl, who volunteers at Mandurah Community Garden, said it was a place for the community to enjoy nature.

“Our garden is for everybody, no matter your age, background or ability. It’s a place to connect, learn and simply be,” Cheryl said.

Across town in Lakelands, volunteer Michael said their garden gives locals a space to step away from the screen and soak up some time outside.

“Just getting your hands in the soil, being out in the fresh air - it’s incredibly good for your mental health.”

These gardens are great examples of your rates at work in our community, supporting initiatives that help build a happier, healthier Mandurah.

Each garden regularly hosts activities and events from busy bee days to special growers' workshops, and each time they give real Mandurah people the chance to learn something new.

Best of all, these spaces are open to anyone. As Nicole from the Falcon garden puts it: “You don’t have to be a gardener to join. It’s a great place to start, learn and be part of something.”
